I usually try to find new music, something different from the rest, something edgy, something uncategorized. Well wouldn’t you know it, I found it while watching T.V. again. I was watching yesterday’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and I have found a song that hits directly home. It hits the doorbell on the siding of the door of the home where my heart lies. It is the something new I have been waiting for, sort of.

Call me dramatic, emotional or crazy, but I know good music and this is great music! I heard Jar of Hearts by a new, unsigned artist named Christina Perri. According to the choreographer on the show, the song was about picking up the pieces after a breakup and finally moving on but then he comes back into the picture out of nowhere. As soon as I heard that, I was hooked. I didn’t care what kind of song it was, I WANTED IT. I wanted it like a sentence wants an end, like a star wants to shine, like the Dallas Mavericks want a championship.

Why, you ask? If you look back on my posting ”So there’s this guy. . .” you will see exactly what I am talking about and why I can relate. If that wasn’t bad enough, about five months ago, I moved into a new apartment. Memorial Day came and guess who I see at my apartment complex. . . YES, that same guy with his new woman, with that same offspring. They live there too. Why must I be so tortured by him all the time? Anyways, I figured this song went perfectly with my current situation.

“And who do you think you are
Running around leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You’re gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
Don’t come back for me
Don’t come back at all”

Although this songs is great, I did some research and I love the original lyrics a whole lot more. Her old video shows how much emotion is behind the words she is singing, how much pain she had been through. Perri’s voice is amazing and the interpretation is pure genius. I can’t listen to this song enough. I am just hoping that she comes out with an album soon! In the mean time, check her out on her YouTube channel and her Website.

So, the mini-internship is over, the laptop is functional again and my BlackBerry contacts have been restored. Hallelujah!

Now back to reality, but in a new place of residence with two roommates. Since it is a bit quieter here than it was at home, I have been running my iHome constantly, kind of. So, I have 4,276 songs on my iPod and I am on song 677.

I have decided to set a goal. Yes, a short-term goal. It may not be professional or even practical, but hey, it’s something. I will listen to, or at least go through, ALL the songs on my iPod. It has been something I have been wanting to do but have yet to accomplish. A bit of any kind of achievement is good for the soul, don’t you think?

It has been great so far, actually. I have discovered songs that I had forgotten were in that amazing little black and silver, square contraption that is in my top five of must-haves of all time. From Tejano to Country to Rap and Hip-Hop. Oh, and lets not forget my Rock en Espanol. Awesome!

At this rate, I will probably be done in about a month or two. Yes, I do have a lot of music, but that’s because music is probably the thing I am most passionate about. It is like a best friend who is always there for you, who know’s just the right words to say at the best and worst times in your life. All you have to do is push POWER. It adds a sense of nostalgia to everything.

Songs are like bookmarks in my life. When I hear a certain song, it takes me back to that time, it reminds me of a certain point in my life and that is truly amazing. It’s. . . Magical!

Yes, I like country music. Not the low down, honky-tonk, green tractors and four-wheeler kind of country, but the slow, romantic, heart breaking songs from the soul.

Country has the truest of all sad songs, the songs you play when you are heart-broken, the ones you turn to when nothing else in the world matters. Of course, if you know Spanish, you can always listen to Vicente Fernandez, the Mexican version of B. B. King, but there is just something about these country songs. Instead of drowning your tears in tequila, as you would with Fernandez, you do so with beer, any beer within a five-inch radius.

As you are well on your third, maybe fourth beer, and keep in mind that I am not a beer girl AT ALL, you start to think about that one person that did you wrong, the one who made you mad, the one who made you cry, but the only one who can make you stop. And THEN you start to hate everything about them, the way they smile, laugh, how they talk and even how they walk. Everything seems to take a different turn.

Then you start messing with your phone, you scroll down to their name and sit there thinking, sip after sip. Should you call them? After all, they are probably scared or nervous about calling you, right? Keep telling yourself that sister, or brother.

We all know that too-familiar situation and have probably gone through it once or twice. That brings me to two amazing songs that are very near and dear to my heart.

1. Need You Now by Lady Antebellum- “It’s a quarter after one, I’m a little drunk and I need you now. Said I wouldn’t call but I lost all control and I need you now. And I don’t know how I can do without, I just need you now.”

2. I May Hate Myself In The Morning by Leann Womack- “Ain’t it just like one of us to pick up the phone and call after a couple of drinks, and say: “How you been? I been wonderin’ that maybe you’ve been thinkin’ ’bout me.” And somewhere in the conversation, an old familiar invitation always arrives, and I may hate myself in the morning, but I’m gonna love you tonight.”

These two say it like it is. No beating around the bush with these songs, so grab a beer, or two, and have a listen and promise not to drunk-dial or text. I won’t either!

“You were the first to say, that we were not OK. You were the first to lie when we were not alright.” —3DG

Yes, Three Days Grace has come out with another great album. The song that stood out the most, as if you couldn’t tell from the lyrics, was “Last to know.”

Because of my love for heartbreaking lyrics and melancholic melodies, this song has become one of my favorites. . . at least for right now. In my book, all music is great music, except for several “out there” songs that no one should ever be listening to.

I wonder if there is a job out there that would mean ticketing people for listening to horrid music. After all, there is a fashion police, right? Why not a music watch program that gives noise offenders new albums to listen to and sets them on a rehab program that detoxes them of the music that they were ticketed for in the first place?

Anyways, back to the subject. This song hits almost close to home, maybe next door. The songs you love the most are the ones that remind you of things you have been through and, without pouring my heart out and embarrasing myself, this song does just that. We have all gone through times when we love something, not necessarily a person, and it is abruptly taken away from us. A feeling of emptiness and solitude creeps in and camps out in the deepest crevice of your heart and mind.

However, listening to music, sad music at that, makes me feel better when I’m going through a troublesome time. Now listening to songs like “Last To Know” just makes me aware that things aren’t as bad as they seem. It’s not the end of the world and I made it out alive.

I just love me some sad songs!

“I’ll be the first to say, that now I’m OK and for the first time, I’ve opened up my eyes. This was my worst love. You’ll be the first to go. And when she leaves you for dead, you’ll be the last to know.” –Three Days Grace

So there’s this guy, but isn’t there always some guy? Well, we have history together, and I am not talking about the boring class with all the wars and battles, it’s history that will NEVER be forgotten, the kind people write about in books.

Anyways, I haven’t seen him in a long time and I decided that it was for the best that we don’t talk anymore. Enough said. I know, or am at least pretty sure, his significant other is on the verge of reproducing and making this world a sadder place with a product of those two human beings, and I am not just saying that. Those two are mean and rude and all sorts of negative adjectives. Believe me, I know what I’m talking about. I am also pretty sure that the due date is this month, mathematically speaking.

I am sitting by the entrance to the hospital across from Elevator C, waiting for my mom to register for her appointment, minding my own business, looking like a hot mess and half asleep and guess who walks through the revolving door?!?! Yes, THAT guy.

I was nervous and surprised and knew exactly why he was there. That girl had popped. Out of all the people and all the weird places in which I could run into him or anyone else for that matter, why did it have to be at the hospital where SHE was having his baby? Is it some kind of sick joke that the higher authority is playing on me? I mean seriously, what are the chances of us running into each other there on this day?

Well, needless to say, we ignored each other and I turned to my iPod for comfort, but it seemed to know my pain. Although it was on shuffle, the songs hit really hard. One right after the other. The one that stood out the most was Gravityby Sarah Bareilles. Yes, I consider that guy something bad and he always seems to pull me back, but not this time, not yet anyways and hopefully never again.

So, in anticipation of this new movie, Post Grad, I have stopped to look at my life. Maybe I should wait on that and just watch my life on the big screen on Friday.

Post Grad, a movie coming out tomorrow, is about a recent college grad who has to move back in with her parents and struggles finding a job after going to several interviews. Well, move over Alexis Bledel, that movie was made from my life, and sadly, many others’ lives.

I too am a recent college graduate, had to move back in with my parents and have been on several nerve-racking interviews and am still unemployed. I am even starting to think that college was a waste of time.

Maybe I should have skipped my pursuit of higher education and stayed working full time. Who knows, maybe I could have been manager somewhere by now, or better yet, at least still had a job. Nowadays, if you have a job, you are considered LUCKY in my book.

It’s sad that a college degree can’t really do much. It used to be that if you had a degree, you were set. Now? Who knows, maybe you need a Master’s degree but who has the money to go back to school if you can’t even find a job?

I hope my “post grad” life gets better. I need to pay off my student loans!!!

My name is not Victoria. It’s not Vanessa, not Veronica and not Regina. My name is VIRGINIA. Virginia, like the state. V-I-R-G-I-N-I-A. Three “i’s” and one “a.” Not that difficult, right? WRONG!!!

I can not count how many times I have been called so many different names other than my own. It’s embarrasing, not for the person making the mistake, but for me. I don’t know why. If I correct them, they say “I’m sorry” and I am then forced to say, “It’s OK.” I would much rather do without the correction, although sometimes I do make the effort and go ahead and do it.

The Ting Tings song, “That’s not my name,” has become the anthem to many introductions to people in my life. Time and time again, I get called “Victoria” and I wish I could just bust into song and shout “they call me quiet, but I’m a riot, Mary, Jo, Lisa, always the same. That’s not my name, that’s not my name, that’s not MY name!” Unfortunately, I keep my composure and I have even begun to respond to those names. If someone calls me Veronica, I am OK with it. Victoria? That’s OK too. I have learned to embrace it and just correct them once I get to know them more or if they repeatedly make the mistake after correction number one.

In the mean time, I will rock out to the song and secretly think that they wrote the song especially for me.

Okay, so I heard that new song “Who’s Got Your Money” by Tina Parol. It talks about how she followed her man and caught him cheating. After that, she took all his money and his cards and went shopping and took trips, not by herself, but with her girls, to mend her broken heart. Catchy tune but it seems like I have heard this before? Anybody?

Well, Blu Cantrell had a song a few years ago named “Hit Em Up Style (Oops!).” Yeah, same scenario. She caught her man cheating and yup, you guessed it, she took all his money.

Both of these songs talk about using the cheater’s money for themselves but also their friends. I guess it’s like compensation for not listening to their advice and for being there for her anyways after all the commotion. The difference? Cantrell not only spent the money the two-timing boyfriend had, but she also pawned his stuff so he was left with nothing. Cantrell’s song also encourages all others to take action and do the same if in case they are going through the same thing.

Question. What if your boyfriend doesn’t have money? What if he has no equity to pawn? What will they do then? Perhaps they will take some pointers from Jazmine Sullivan in her song “Bust Your Windows” or Carrie Underwood in “Before He Cheats.” They both busted up their significant others’ cars once they found out about their cheating ways.

So guys, please think twice about your actions. If you have valuable assets, be prepared to live without them if you cheat and if you happen to be on the low side but have a car, prepare yourself to see your vehicle take a huge beating. It will never be the same again. Remember, if you do cheat, you will soon after be broke. . . probably.

So I am a HUGE fan of reality television and last week I was watching “So You Think You Can Dance.” It is one of the many dance competition shows (like American Idol) out there with Mary Murphy, the loudest, most annoying person I have ever heard speak or yell on TV. Well, not as annoying as Lil’ Mama on “Americas Best Dance Crew” on MTV. However, aside from the constant “woooohoooooo!!!!!!” by a certain judge, the show is pretty addicting.

It happens to me far more often than not, I get to know the competitors and am devastated once they get booted off the show. It is a love/hate relationship with these shows. Anyways, as I was watching the two hour long show, two of the competitors, Jeanine and Jason, start their interpretive stepping on the stage and instead of paying attention to the groovy moves by these two, I am captivated more by the song that accompanies their motions.

I immediately hit Google for a quick search and there it is. This song is If It Kills Me by Jason Mraz. It’s about a guy who is in love with a girl who just happens to be his best friend. He wants to tell her how he feels but is too scared of what might or might not happen. It is a situation that is far too familiar for me. I too have been there, done that. ALthough it didn’t turn out as wanted, it was what it was and I don’t regret it.

Now, I have downloaded the song and listen to it everyday, several times in a row. The lyrics make this song so hard not to like. Who hasn’t loved and lost? Who hasn’t fallen for someone whom they know is not for them? It happens to often and I am glad this song was on the show. If not, I would have NEVER been exposed to it and ALL the words seem to be taken directly out of my life several years ago.

Have you been through it? Listen to the song, watch the dance video or Jason performing the song, or even read the lyrics. Tell me your situation? Does the song not hit a chord? Of course it does. Let me know!

Hello out there. I am Virginia and soon, I will be writing about music and entertainment.

Have you ever just broken up with someone and found the perfect song whose lyrics are taken right out of your heart? Have you ever been so mad that a rock song’s lyrics fit perfectly with the situation? You, my friend, like many others have gone through it and it’s no shame. It happens to the best of us.

Now, have you ever been going through something and watched a similar situation on TV and look to see what the characters do or watch to see how the story plays out so that you may later take that advice and act accordingly? Me too! Seriously, I’m a dork like that.

From time to time, I will blog about these types of situations, what plays out in the media (since I am a huge fan of all things media) and what goes on in the music industry (or radio) because I am a music junkie to the fullest. I LOVE ALL TYPES OF MUSIC!!!

So sit back, relax and let this be your guilty pleasure. Enjoy!
